Light has always been intertwined with the culture of cinema. Before the digital era, film was often described as the art of “painting with light.” In the digital age, however, light in cinema is no longer bound to the imagery of a painting. Pixels and digital codes now compose infinite possibilities of illumination. Yet, whether projected onto a screen or glowing through the device in our hands, light transforms into images—and from these images, narratives and meanings are born.
