Inclusive Film and Culture Festival Event
Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,
May peace and blessings be upon us all.
All praise be to God Almighty, for it is by His grace and blessing that we can gather to celebrate the Madani International Film Festival (Madani Fest) 2025.
Jakarta is a vibrant metropolis, rich in cultural diversity and economic potential. The city’s culture and civilization have grown through a confluence of many influences—deeply rooted in Betawi traditions, yet open to global currents. Jakarta stands as a cultural and civilizational center of the archipelago, as well as a crossroads of world cultures that has marked global trade routes since the 16th century BC.
The Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta continues to advance its vision of becoming one of the Top 20 Global Cities by 2045—a city grounded in history, culture, and innovation. Through the Jakarta Department of Culture, the government consistently develops multi-layered cultural and artistic spaces across the city, aligned with the Jakarta Regional Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPD) 2025–2045, particularly in the chapter on Economic Growth Direction. One of these cultural initiatives is the inclusive film and cultural festival—Madani International Film Festival.
Madani Fest is part of the official program Citra Kawasan Pusat Kesenian Jakarta Taman Ismail Marzuki (PKJ TIM), as stated in the Governor’s Decree No. 1007 of 2022. The festival serves as an inclusive platform for film and cultural exchange, highlighting key themes such as Living Islam, Civic Engagement, Civilization, and Urban Life. This year’s edition, Madani Fest 2025, is also part of the Jakarta500 celebration series leading up to 2027.
Within Madani Fest, several programs are dedicated to the city and its culture. These include film screenings under the “Jakarta Banget” section, held at the Gerimis Bubar (Misbar) open-air stage in collaboration with Misbar Kota. The festival also celebrates community participation, featuring performances by Karang Taruna youth groups and PKK women’s associations from Kalipasir, as well as collaborations among dozens of Jakarta-based communities to activate civic engagement and public spaces—fostering stronger social, cultural, and economic formations for all residents.
I warmly welcome the 2025 Madani Fest, held under the theme “Misykat”, which reaffirms the spirit of Jakarta as a plural, dynamic, creative, and innovative city. May this festival strengthen the network of cultural communities, broaden our shared perspectives, and affirm Jakarta’s role as a living space that continually builds its identity through tradition, civic participation, and artistic creation—energizing the city’s cultural and creative economy.
Wassalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
